PostSubject: Defining Life   Mon Apr 04, 2011 8:18 pm

I was listening to something on the radio this afternoon about the possibility of life on Mars. During the conversation they discussed the difficulty of even defining what life was. One woman (I forget what her name was) said that humanity just isn't capable of defining life yet and compared it to people 500 years ago trying to define water. They didn't posses the knowledge or tools to adequately do the job.

There's a separate stream of thought that says that (like pornography) we can't really define life but we know it when we see it.

So what are your thoughts on the matter. Do you think it's possible to define life and if so how would you define it?
