No, I'm not saying good-bye to any of you, my friends.
This is about something else.
I've reached the age where it seems I'm hearing every week about another friend who has either died or is seriously ill. I do feel sadness at the loss, but I also realize that everyone has to leave the building eventually. So, I can deal with it.
In a way, it makes me so much more appreciative of those I care about who are still here. I don't want to wait till they're dead to say how much I care about them.
The problem is........
Many of my friends get very sad when someone leaves us. I try to share the sadness and sympathy for the loss, but I don't know what to say. I don't know if there's an afterlife or a heaven - so I can't sincerely say that the person who's gone will find something on "the other side."
How do you deal with this?
